Waves Drop 67-44 Decision to Brigham Young in WCC Play
Pepperdine Concludes Three Games in Eight Days vs. Cougars

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine made it interesting for a half, but Brigham Young sizzled in the second half and cruised to a 67-44 West Coast Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Firestone Fieldhouse. The Waves (4-19, 1-11 WCC) committed just eight turnovers in the contest, but the Cougars (18-7, 9-3 WCC) used its superior size to complete the regular season sweep.
Kelsey Brockway (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) matched her career-high with 10 points and energized Pepperdine in the opening period with eight points. Tessa Emerson (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) added eight points and three rebounds off the bench for the Waves, while Ea Shoushtari (Los Angeles, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) added seven points, four rebounds and two assists.
Pepperdine put up a fight early as the opening 20 minutes featured four tied scores and a lead change as the Waves trailed 25-24 at the intermission. It was all BYU in the second as the Cougars opened up the half on a 32-9 run and led by as many as 28 points.
Brigham Young shot .450 (27-60) from the field, but finished strong connecting on .607 (17-28) in the second half. Pepperdine shot .266 (17-64) and made just six field goals in the second half. BYU owned a 49-31 rebound advantage, which helped offset 16 turnovers.
Kim Beeston led four Cougars in double-digit scoring with 16 points and nine rebounds. Keilani Unga chipped in 14 points and nine boards.
Pepperdine returns to action when it hosts longtime rival Loyola Marymount Thursday, February 21 in a Wells Fargo PCH Cup battle. Tip-off against the Lions is set for 7:00 p.m. in a game featuring live video streaming via WaveCasts.
