Waves Fall on the Road to Utah
Pepperdine stays in Utah for one more game this week before a break in the schedule for finals.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Pepperdine women’s basketball team suffered an 89-65 road loss on Tuesday night to a hot-shooting Utah squad.
The Waves fall to 4-4 on the year, while Utah moves to 7-1. Pepperdine won the fourth quarter, but couldn’t find the run it needed all game long after the Utes were able to pull away early.
• Fellow freshman Monique Andriuolo also scored 10 points, hitting 4-of-8 shots.
• Redshirt sophomore guard Sydney Bordonaro had 10 points and led the team with seven rebounds.
• Pepperdine shot 45.3% for the game while Utah shot 48.6%.
• The Waves were hampered by 27.3% shooting from three and 56% shooting from the free throw line.
The Waves scored first, but couldn’t keep up with Utah through the first half as the home team took a 50-29 advantage into the break. The Utes were 10-of-11 from the free throw line in the first half and had 10 second-chance points.
After Utah extended it to a 70-41 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, Pepperdine was able to chip away at the lead by winning the final period 24-19, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
The Waves stay in Utah for another non-conference matchup this week, heading to Weber State on Thursday night for a 6 p.m. (PT) contest. Pepperdine has two more games on the schedule before the start of West Coast Conference play.
