MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine played its final non-conference game of the 2012-13 season and dropped a 77-46 loss to No. 17/18 UCLA Friday night at Firestone Fieldhouse. The Waves (3-8) wrap up their four-game homestand at 1-3 after dropping their second contest in three games against a top-20 opponent, this time to the Bruins (8-2).
Jade McNorton (Boise, Idaho/Centennial HS) led the way for the Waves with 12 points and was the only player in double digit scoring for Pepperdine. Alisha Roberts (Burnaby, B.C./York House School) scored her first collegiate points, finishing with seven to go along with a career-high four assists.
After tying the contest at 4-4 on a a pair of free throws by Ea Shoushtari (Los Angeles, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.), the Bruins used a 19-4 burst to cruise to a 34-17 advantage at the half. UCLA shot .412 (14-34) from the field and limited the Waves to just six first-half field goals on dismal .231 (6-26) from the floor. Kelsey Patrick (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak HS) led Pepperdine with six points and four rebounds in the opening period.
UCLA continued to extend its advantage in the second half and led by as many as 35 after the intermission. The Waves did shoot the ball better after the break, converting on .478 (11-23). One of the best rebounding teams in the country, UCLA enjoyed a 52-28 advantage on the boards, including a 22-5 edge on the offensive glass.
Nirra Fields scored a game-high 19 points and completed the double-double with 12 rebounds for UCLA. The Bruins shot .474 (32-72) from the field and limited the Waves to .347 (17-49) from the floor. Pepperdine shot a dismal 1-for-15 from 3-point range (.067).
