Waves Put WCC Tournament Title on the Line

The Pepperdine women's basketball team will look to defend its 2006 West Coast Conference tournament title Thursday night in Portland, Ore. as the No. 5 seed of the 2007 tournament. The Waves are scheduled to face fourth-seeded Saint Mary's at 8 p.m. PT in the final game of the women's quarterfinals.

Pepperdine ended the regular season on a positive note, defeating Santa Clara 77-69 in Santa Clara, Calif. in the Bronco's home finale.

The Waves and the Gaels split the season series in 2007 with each team winning on its home court. This year marks the third straight Pepperdine and Saint Mary's have met in the opening round of the league's postseason tournament. Pepperdine has won each of the previous two.

Head coach Julie Rousseau is 4-1 at the conference tournament after guiding the team to its third tournament title in five year a year ago.

Freshman Teena Wickett was tabbed to the All-WCC first team as well as the All-freshman team by the league's coaches. Daphanie Kennedy was named honorable mention.
