MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine Women’s Basketball Head Coach Ryan Weisenberg announced the signing of Chaminade College Prep standout Devin Stanback to a National Letter of Intent this week. She will join the Waves next season.
Stanback, a 6-3 center hailing from West Hills, Calif., led Chaminade to an undefeated record in league play and a Division II state title this season.
“We are extremely excited to have Devin as part of the Pepperdine family,” said Weisenberg. “She is going to make a great impact with her abilities on and off the court.”
Stanback was a finalist for the Ms. Basketball California State Player of the Year award this season and was named All-CIF second team and All-Mission League first team as a senior. She also garnered LA Times All-Star Team honors this past season and was named All-League second team as a junior. Stanback excelled in the classroom as well during her prep career, earning the Math Department Chair Award in 2012.
Stanback scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the state title game this year, leading the Eagles to a win over five-time state winner Archbishop Mitty. She averaged 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds as a senior, shooting 50 percent from the floor.
“Devin dominated the paint and boards throughout her senior season,” said Weisenberg. “The fact that she helped lead her team to a CIF State Title makes me confident she is going to bring that winning attitude to our program.”
She will join a Waves squad that returns the core of its young talent from last season as well as a trio of talented transfers who red-shirted this past season. Stanback and previously signed Kim Jacobs will be the only two freshmen joining the team.
