MALIBU, Calif. - A Thanksgiving tournament and home games against UCLA and Kentucky highlight the Pepperdine women's basketball team's non-conference schedule, which head coach Julie Rousseau announced today.
The Waves will play one exhibition and seven non-conference home games in addition to the eight West Coast Conference home contests already announced.
"It's a tough schedule," Rousseau said. "That's by design. Our conference is tougher, we're ranked pretty high conference-wise, and so we've got to play some really good teams to get ready for conference play. It will give our kids some good experience. We're a young team and we'll be throwing them into the fire."
The Waves held a tournament around Thanksgiving for nine straight years between 2000 and 2008, and it will return as the Pepperdine Thanksgiving Classic on November 23-24. Rousseau's squad will play South Dakota, while Seton Hall will face Wyoming on the first day.
The Waves will play three Pac-12 teams: UCLA at home (Dec. 28) and both USC (Nov. 18) and Washington (Nov. 27) on the road.
Pepperdine will take on two of the top Southeastern Conference teams, with Kentucky visiting Firestone Fieldhouse on Dec. 18, while the Waves travel to Arkansas on Dec. 2. Kentucky was a #2 seed in last spring's NCAA Tournament and reached the Elite Eight. Arkansas was a #6 seed in the tournament.
The Waves' other home games are an exhibition against Westmont (Oct. 30) and contests against UC Riverside (Nov. 12), Seattle (Dec. 14) and Howard (Dec. 21).
Pepperdine's previously announced WCC home games are San Francisco (Jan. 10), Santa Clara (Jan. 17), Gonzaga (Jan. 24), San Diego (Jan. 26), Portland (Feb. 9), BYU (Feb. 16), Loyola Marymount (Feb. 21) and Saint Mary's (March 2).
Pepperdine's has one other non-conference road game, which is at UC Davis (Nov. 9).
