MALIBU, Calif. – Krista Pettepier, a 6-2 forward transfer from Pittsburgh, has signed a scholarship agreement to compete for Pepperdine starting in the 2014-15 campaign as announced today by head coach Ryan Weisenberg. Pettepier (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny HS) enjoyed a productive freshman campaign for the Panthers competing in the elite Big East conference.
“Krista will add some much needed height and physicality to our post game,” Weisenberg said. “With a year of valuable experience in the now defunct Big East under her belt, she will be a major presence on the floor and in the locker room. Krista is a great young lady that is going to fit in perfectly at Pepperdine with her work ethic in the classroom and with her amazing sense of humor. We are really excited to welcome Krista into the Pepperdine family.”
During her lone season at Pittsburgh, Pettepier appeared in all 30 games, averaging 14.3 minutes per contest. She emerged as a front line player and started the final eight games of the season for the Panthers. For the season, Pettepier averaged 1.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest, including a career-high eight boards against Cincinnati (2/20/13).
Pettepier turned in a decorated prep career at Ankeny High School and wrapped up her career ranked second in career blocks and third in career rebounds. A four-year starter, she helped lead the Hawkettes to an 81-17 record over the span and four-straight appearances in the Class 4-A state tournament.
During her senior campaign, Pettepier captured All-Central Iowa Metro League (CIML) First Team and Des Moines Register First Team all-conference honors to go along with a spot on the Class 4A State All-Tournament squad. Pettepier lifted AHS to the state title game, averaging 6.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
As a junior co-captain, she averaged 5.9 points and 5.0 rebounds en route to all-conference honorable mention honors. In addition, she paced her Ankeny squad in both rebounds (120) and blocked shots (32). Pettepier averaged 7.4 points and 6.1 rebounds as a sophomore campaign.
Pettepier was a standout for the Ankeny volleyball team, helping the team to a Class 4-A state championship as a sophomore and a runner-up showing as a junior. The Hawkettes captured four consecutive outright CIML Central Conference championships.
