SEASON OPENERS ON THE HORIZON: Pepperdine opens the 2012-13 season when it travels to Northern California to take on UC Davis Friday, November 9, 2012. Tip-off against the Aggies is set for 7:00 p.m. in The Pavilion. The Waves welcome UC Riverside to Malibu for their home opener Monday, November 12. Game time against the Highlanders is 7:00 p.m. at Firestone Fieldhouse.
A LOOK AT THE NEWCOMERS: Entering 2012-13, Pepperdine will go into battle missing four of its top-five scorers from last season, representing 70 percent of the total offense. The Waves addressed this by securing five outstanding freshmen ready to make a mark in 2012-13. Kelsey Brockway (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS), Amanda Lovely (Palo Alto, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS), Monet McNally (Santa Clarita, Calif./L.A. Baptist HS), Alisha Roberts (Burnaby B.C./York House School) and Keitra Wallace (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) all turned in prolific prep careers with strong programs. Erica Chandler (Charlotte, N.C./George Washington) enters as a junior transfer and looks to contribute in her first season on the West Coast after spending two years at George Washington.
UPPERCLASSMEN READY TO LEAD: Pepperdine welcomes back a solid core of returning players and all will be expected to provide guidance and leadership for a roster returning just four upper-classmen. The Waves’ two-member senior class looks to rise to the occasion in their final season on the Malibu campus. Kelsey Patrick (Mukilteo, Wash.) is the team’s top returning scorer and elevated her game during league play last season, averaging 6.2 points and 4.0 rebounds while starting all 16 WCC contests as a junior. Shay Cooney-Williams (Frisco, Texas/Frisco HS) appeared in 29 games with five starting nods and added 4.8 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game for the Waves. Robie Mayberry (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O’Dowd HS) appeared in 17 games as a sophomore, averaging 4.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game until suffering a season-ending injury. Jade McNorton (Boise, Idaho/Centennial HS) played in 28 games with 11 starts as a redshirt sophomore, averaging 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds.
BLUE AND ORANGE MADNESS: Pepperdine Basketball kicked off the 2012-13 season with its annual Blue and Orange Madness celebration Friday, October 12. Check out the video highlights right HERE.
MEET COACH ROUSSEAU: The fifth head coach in Pepperdine women's basketball history, Julie Rousseau heads into her ninth season in Malibu in 2012-13. The former head coach of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks took the Waves to the postseason twice in recent years and has the team poised for future success. During Rousseau's eight seasons, the Waves produced 10 All-WCC first team selections, seven WCC All-Freshman team members, six WCC All-Tournament honorees and 10 WCC All-Academic selections.
