WAVES AGAINST THE BIG WEST: Pepperdine owns a 107-60 overall record against current members of the Big West Conference. The Waves trail in the all-time series to just two schools: Long Beach State (3-10) and new Big West member Hawaii (4-6) and have posted 20 wins against Cal State Northridge (24-3) and UC Irvine (20-11).

LET’S GET IT STARTED: Since game-by-game records started being kept prior to the 1976-77 campaign, Pepperdine owns a 21-15 record in season openers. Before dropping a 89-57 decision at perennial national power Tennessee last season, Pepperdine had won four-straight season openers after losing six in a row from 2001 to 2006. In the Rousseau era the Waves are 4-4 in season openers. Pepperdine has started 15 seasons at home, 12 on neutral courts and nine away from Firestone Fieldhouse. The Waves are 11-4 in home season openers.

A LOOK AT THE NEWCOMERS: Entering 2012-13, Pepperdine will go into battle missing four of its top-five scorers from last season, representing 70 percent of the total offense. The Waves addressed this by securing five outstanding freshmen ready to make a mark in 2012-13. Kelsey Brockway (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS), Amanda Lovely (Palo Alto, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS), Monet McNally (Santa Clarita, Calif./L.A. Baptist HS), Alisha Roberts (Burnaby B.C./York House School) and Keitra Wallace (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) all turned in prolific prep careers with strong programs. Erica Chandler (Charlotte, N.C./George Washington) enters as a junior transfer and looks to contribute in her first season on the West Coast after spending two years at George Washington.

UPPERCLASSMEN READY TO LEAD: Pepperdine welcomes back a solid core of returning players and all will be expected to provide guidance and leadership for a roster returning just four upperclassmen. The Waves’ two-member senior class looks to rise to the occasion in their final season on the Malibu campus. Kelsey Patrick (Mukilteo, Wash.) is the team’s top returning scorer and elevated her game during league play last season, averaging 6.2 points and 4.0 rebounds while starting all 16 WCC contests as a junior. Shay Cooney-Williams (Frisco, Texas/Frisco HS) appeared in 29 games with five starting nods and added 4.8 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game for the Waves. Robie Mayberry (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O’Dowd HS) appeared in 17 games as a sophomore, averaging 4.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game until suffering a season-ending injury.  Jade McNorton (Boise, Idaho/Centennial HS) played in 28 games with 11 starts as a redshirt sophomore, averaging 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds.

POLL PROGNOSTICATIONS: Pepperdine was picked to finish fifth in the 2012-13 West Coast Conference Coaches Poll.
