Waves Announce Signing of Transfer Layana White

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine Head Women's Basketball Coach Ryan Weisenberg announced the signing of transfer Layana White from Arizona today. White transfers to Pepperdine after playing two seasons for the Wildcats.
White is a 5-9 point guard out of Lancaster, Calif. who joins the Waves after making 18 starts and 52 appearances at Arizona over the last two years.
"Layana is a great addition to the Pepperdine women's basketball family," said Weisenberg. "She is a floor general and a great defensive player. We are really looking forward to what she will bring to our program."
Last season White averaged 17.0 minutes per game, grabbing 20 steals and dishing out 23 assists while averaging 2.8 points per game. Her freshman year White averaged 9.2 minutes per contest, putting up 2.1 points per game and 1.2 rebounds. She scored a career-high 16 points against Oregon last year and also put up 11 at Colorado. In 2011, playing against then No. 4-ranked Stanford, White scored nine points, shooting 4-of-6 from the field.
White played her prep ball at Bellermine-Jefferson High School in Burbank, Calif., earning All-CIF first team and All-League first team honors as a senior, and All-CIF second team as a junior. Her final year, White averaged 14.6 points per game, 4.5 steals per game, 4.0 assists per game and 3.0 rebounds per game.
White will be eligible to play for the Waves in December 2014.
