KAPALUA, Maui, Hawaii - Grace Na began defense of her 2013 Anuenue Spring Break Classic title with a 2-under 70, putting her into a tie for first place, while the Pepperdine women's golf team is also tied for first after Monday's first round.
The #8 Waves and #7 Washington are the two highest-ranked teams in the field. They both shot a 2-over 290 at the par-72 Kapulua Bay Course and lead San Jose State (296) by six strokes and UC Davis (298) by eight. The second round is on Tuesday and the third round is on Wednesday.
Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS), a senior who is a three-time All-American and West Coast Conference Player of the Year, is tied with Washington's Ling Yuo and UC Davis' Betty Chen atop the leaderboard. Na is aiming for her sixth career title. She had a total of four birdies during her round.
Two more Waves are in the top 10.
