The Waves shot a 5-over 293 at the par-72 Gold Mountain Golf Club. Gonzaga is at 298 and Brigham Young is 15 shots back at 308. The Waves, Bulldogs and Cougars will tee of the 10th hole beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) won the WCC Championships as a freshman in 2011 and she's off to a good start toward becoming medalist again as a junior. She shot a 2-under 70, which leads Gonzaga's Raychelle Santos by one shot. Na had a team-high four birdies on the day.
Freshman Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) is in third place after an even-par 72, and sophomore Alina Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) made it three Waves in the top four as her 1-over 73 put her in fourth place. Chow had three birdies and three bogeys on the day. Each time she recorded a bogey, she came back with a birdie in the next couple of holes to get her back to par. Ching was 3-over after six holes but played flawless golf the rest of the way, posting 10 pars and two birdies.
