Women's Golf Takes Lead at Dick McGuire Invitational
The Waves will look to win the event for the third time on Saturday.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Junior Somin Lee fired a 4-under 142 to help put the Pepperdine women's golf into first place following Friday's first two rounds of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) is in second place, while senior Grace Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) is fifth and sophomore Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) is tied for sixth, helping the Waves to a four-stroke lead over Oregon in the team competition.
The Waves shot a 290 in the morning, giving them a five-stroke advantage over Colorado, and a 291 in the afternoon, giving them a total of a 3-under 581. Oregon is at 585, while UC Davis is in third at 588.
The third and final round at the par-73 UNM Championship Course is set for Saturday. Pepperdine, listed at #15 in Golfweek's preseason rankings, is trying for its third victory at the event, having also won the McGuire in 2005 and 2009.
Lee shot 70-72 with a total of 12 birdies on the day. Seven of them came in the first round, when she had three in a row on holes three, four and five, and then she had another stretch between holes 10 and 13 where she recorded three birdies over the four holes. During the afternoon round, three of her five birdies came consecutively on the ninth, 10th and 11 holes. She's four shots back of the leader, Oregon's Cassy Isagawa.
Na has a 2-under 144 (73-71), while Chow is just back of her with a 1-under 145 (72-73). Na had six birdies during her two rounds. Chow had a total of four birdies as well as an eagle on the par-5 10th hole during her second round.
Senior Liv Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand) is tied for 25th place at 150 (75-75). She had a total of seven birdies. Junior Alina Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) is tied for 41st place at 153 (75-78). She had five birdies, plus an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole during the first round.
