NORMAN, Okla. - The Pepperdine's women's golf team's quest to begin a season with an unprecedented third straight title got off to a rocky start during Saturday's first round of the Schooner Fall Classic.
After winning New Mexico's Dick McGuire Invitational and the Golfweek Conference Challenge last month, the Waves had won two tournaments to start a season for the third time in program history. It may be tough to get win number three, however, as the Waves shot a 309 at the par-70 Belmar Golf Club and are in 13th place out of 15 teams with two rounds to go.
Senior Grace Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) had the best day for the Waves, as the three-time All-American shot a 4-over 74 and is tied for 18th place. Na had the team's only two birdies on the day.
Sophomore Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) is tied for 37th place at 77, senior Liv Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand) and freshman Alessandra Arza (Asuncion, Paraguay) are tied for 55th after 79s and junior Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) is tied for 70th after an 82.
The second round is on Sunday and the third round is on Monday. The Waves' final tournament of the fall is the Stanford Intercollegiate on Oct. 25-27.
