Ching, Chow Help Waves to Good Start at Stanford Intercollegiate

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Alina Ching and Marissa Chow posted below-par rounds to help the Pepperdine women's golf team to a good start and a fifth-place standing after Friday's first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate.
The Waves shot a 1-over 285 at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course. USC (-8) has a decent lead, but the Waves aren't far behind Washington (-2), Stanford (-1) and Oregon (-1). The second and third round are Saturday and Sunday, respectively. This tournament features 10 top-25 teams, including Pepperdine.
Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School), a junior, is tied for fourth place after a 2-under 69. She had a total of five birdies during her round, including three in a four-hole stretch on holes two, three and five.
Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS), a sophomore, is tied for 11th place after a 1-under 70. She recorded three birdies.
Senior Grace Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) is tied for 16th after an even-par 71, senior Liv Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand) is tied for 56h at 75 and junior Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) is tied for 62nd and 76. Cheng had three birdies on Friday while Na and Lee each notched two.
