PALO ALTO, Calif. - The #8 Pepperdine women's golf team has continued to play very well at the Stanford Intercollegiate and still stands in fifth place after Saturday's second round.
The Waves are one of 10 top-25 ranked squads at the event being held at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course, and a top-five finish would be a good result in their final fall tournament. Pepperdine shot an even-par 284 on Saturday and has a total of a 1-over 569 (285-284).
The team title is shaping up as a battle between the top two teams in the country, USC (-20) and UCLA (-12). The Waves could still catch Washington (-2) and Stanford (E) for third or fourth place, however.
Sophomore Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) leads the Waves, as she's tied for sixth place with a 3-under 139 (70-69). Her second straight under-par round included three birdies and just one bogey. Chow has been under par in eight of her 11 rounds this season.
Junior Alina Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) is tied for 10th place with a 2-under 140 (69-71). Her even-par round today included five birdies.
Senior Grace Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) is tied for 28th place with a 2-over 144 (71-73), senior Liv Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand) is tied for 41st at 147 (75-72) and junior Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) is tied for 49th at 148 (76-72). Cheng had three birdies and Lee had two on Saturday. While Na didn't have any birdies, she did post 16 pars.
