Karle, Waves Lead at WCC Championships
The Pepperdine women's golf team is two-thirds of the way to its seventh consecutive WCC title, and freshman Taylore Karle has a three-stroke lead for medalist honors and set a course record.
The third and final round will be contested on Tuesday (April 15) at the par-72 Chambers Bay Golf Course. The Waves shot a 299 in both the morning and afternoon rounds for a total of 598 strokes.
“It was a long day and the weather was brutal at times,” Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. “There was some rain for about three holes and then the wind blew hard. But everything worked out really well and we’re happy where we are. I’m really proud of them for doing so well with some pretty tough conditions. Everybody contributed and that’s something that we’ve been missing at times. Tomorrow, we want to finish this off and get a win so we have confidence going into regionals.”
All five of the Waves are in the top 10, led by Karle (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who shot a course-record 1-under 71 and followed it up with a 1-over 73, good for a total of an even-par 144. She had three birdies in the morning and two in the afternoon. After posting three top 10 finishes this spring, she will aim for her first collegiate title on Tuesday.
