No. 4 Pepperdine Earns No. 2 Seed at West Regional Championships

April 30, 2007

Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's golf team, ranked No. 4 in the latest Golfweek rankings, earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA West Regional, the NCAA announced on Monday. The Waves will travel to St. George, Utah, where they will compete at the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club, May 10-12.

The West Regional also includes top-seed and No. 1-ranked Arizona State.

Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 10-12 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies will apply.

A total of 324 participants have been selected for the regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.

The championships finals will be held May 22-25 at the LPGA International Legends Course, in Daytona Beach, Florida, hosted by the University of Central Florida and the Central Florida Sports Commission.

Led by head coach Laurie Gibbs, Pepperdine enters regional play seeking its eighth NCAA Championships appearance in the last nine years.

The Waves finished third at last year's NCAA Central Regional in Bryan, Texas, and advanced to their seventh NCAA Championships where they finished third at the Scarlet Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Pepperdine's best-ever showing at the regionals came in 2002 when it tied for first place at the NCAA West Regionals. In 2003, the Waves placed fourth at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Arizona, and went on to the nationals where they finished second.
