MALIBU, Calif. - Grace Na of the Pepperdine women's golf team earned West Coast Conference Player of the Month honors for October -- winning the award for the second straight month and the fourth time in her career -- the league office announced today.
Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS), a junior who is a two-time All-American and a two-time WCC Player of the Year, continued her fabulous start to the fall season with a tie for fifth place at the Stanford Intercollegiate and a sixth-place result at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational during the month of October.
Three of her six rounds were below par and she had a 71.00 stroke average for the two tournaments, finishing even-par in the first and 3-under at the second. Both tournaments were extremely competitive, with 32 of Golfstat's top 100 ranked players competing at Stanford and 23 of them taking part in the Betsy Rawls.
With four top-six finishes in her four tournaments this season (Na also won the WCC award after her two tournaments in September), her results at the last two events moved Na to a national ranking of #7 by Golfstat. Her fall 2012 scoring average is 71.33.
Though this is just her fourth semester of competition, the last two results moved Na into Pepperdine's all-time top 10 for career top-10 (11) and top-20 (17) finishes, and dropped her career stroke average to 73.48, second all-time at Pepperdine.
The Waves resume play in the spring at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif., from Feb. 11-13.
