MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine senior Grace Na has been invited to a Curtis Cup practice session in January, the USGA announced this week. The Curtis Cup is an international golf competition between the United States and a team made up of players from Great Britain and Ireland.
Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) is one of 14 top college players that will go to the Champions Golf Club in Houston between January 31 and February 2.
According to the USGA, invitation to the Curtis Cup practice session does not guarantee selection to the USA Team for the 2014 event, which will be held June 6-8 at the St. Louis (Mo.) Country Club.
Heading into her final semester, Na ranks as one of the finest players in Pepperdine history. She is a three-time All-American and her career scoring average of 73.13 ranks #1 all-time in the program's records book.
Last year, Na set Pepperdine's single-season scoring record with a 72.17 average, finished #8 and #9 in the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, respectively, and earned first team All-American honors from both Golfweek and the WGCA.
A three-time WCC Player of the Year and a seven-time WCC Player of the Month, Na has earned medalist honors five times in her career, including the Golfweek Conference Challenge during the recently concluded fall season. Na currently ranks #16 by Golfstat and #22 by Golfweek/Sagarin and had a scoring average of 71.92 in four fall tournaments. Twenty-five of her 31 career tournaments have resulted in a top-20 finish.
After a successful fall season where the Waves -- who rank sixth in the nation by Golfweek/Sagarin -- won both the Dick McGuire Invitational and the Golfweek Conference Challenge, the team will resume play in the spring at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in nearby Palos Verdes, Calif., on February 9-11.
