SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 5-ranked Pepperdine women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, a 1-0 decision at No. 25 San Diego State at the SDSU Sports Deck on Friday evening.

The game marked the first night game at home for the Aztec (4-0) program, who came into the game having not given up a goal and continued that trend on Friday evening as their defense disrupted the Waves (3-1) usually potent offense.

Through the first half, the Waves were held to just one shot, coming at the 34:04 mark from sophomore forward Lynn Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS). The Aztecs launched nine shots in the first half, forcing senior goalkeeper Roxanne Barker (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), making her second start of the season, to make two saves.

The Aztecs struck at the 57:12 mark in the second half, as Megan Jurado hit a 15-yard well-placed shot from traffic that landed in the upper corner to give San Diego State a 1-0 lead.

The Waves continued to fight back, and in the 65th minute sophomore forward Ally Holtz (Honolulu, Hawai'i) had an attempt miss wide.

In the 77th minute, Barker made a key save for the Waves on a header attempt from the Aztecs' Sarah Halverson to keep the score at 1-0.

In the 86th minute, as the Waves were clawing back, Holtz had an excellent attempt, but Aztec goalkeeper Rachel Boaz was able to make the save.

The Waves continued to push for the equalizer through the final four minutes, but were called offsides in the 87th minute and were unable to tie things up.

The Aztecs finished with 16 shots to the Waves' three. Barker finished with four saves.

Pepperdine will return to the friendly confines of Tari Frahm Rokus Field for a 1 p.m. PT tilt against Indiana on Sunday, Sept. 1.
