Women's Soccer Announces Recruit Signings
The Pepperdine women's soccer team, under the direction of head coach Tim Ward, announced today that seven players have signed letters-of-intent for the 2008 season.
The incoming freshmen are: midfielder/forward Elizabeth Brezden (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon HS), forward Laura Cole (Whittier, Calif./La Habra HS), goalkeeper Lacey Heck (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson HS), defender Kelsey McGovern (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS), defender/forward Kelsea Smith (Camarillo, Calif./Oaks Christian HS), midfielder/forward Myriah Stockman (Sandy, Utah/Brighton HS) and midfielder/forward Melissa Trammell (Yakima, Wash./West Valley HS).
“We are obviously very excited about the incoming freshman class,” Ward said. “Besides being highly accomplished as athletes on the soccer field, we feel this group will be exceptional additions to our soccer program as young women. Each player mentioned here will bring very unique and very special talents to the Pepperdine campus in the fall. It is our hope that each will continue to have the same kind of success for the Waves as they have had for their respective high school, club and Olympic Development teams.”
Brezden was the Century League’s MVP as a senior at
Cole was the 2007 Freeway League Offensive Player of the Year for
Heck was the starting goalkeeper for Wilson High, which was ranked #1 in the country and won the 2008 CIF Southern California Regional Division I state championship and was the CIF Southern Southern Section Division I co-champions. She made 136 saves and had a 0.36 goals-against average, with just nine goals against in a 30-1-4 season. In 2007, she was the Moore League Goalkeeper of the Year and a member of the Long Beach Press-Telegram’s Dream Team. She played club with the Cerritos Regional Soccer Club.
McGovern was a three-year starter at Santa Margarita Catholic High and earned all-league honors. She has played for So Cal Blues for 10 years, and has been a captain for the past five. She was a member of the ODP Cal South team in 2005.
Smith led Oaks Christian to the CIF Southern Section Division V championship with 18 goals as a senior. Smith was named the
Stockman was a three-year letterwinner at Brighton High and was named to the all-state first team as a senior and the second team as a junior and sophomore. She helped the school to the 5A state championship in 2005 and to a Region II title in 2007. Her club team, the Utah Avalanche, won three state championships and advanced to the regional semifinals in 2007 and the quarterfinals in 2004 and 2006. She is a four-year member of
Trammell helped West Valley High to a fourth-place finish in the state as a 2007 senior, and a second-place finish as a 2004 freshman. She earned all-state honorable mention honors as a senior and is a three-time all-league selection. She has played club with MRFC Santos, 3-Rivers United, FC Royals and Sun City Strikers. She was part of the Super Y ODP National Camp in both 2006 and 2007.
