Williams, Guajardo Set to Face Off in International Matches
The U.S. and Mexico women's soccer teams have a two-game series coming up.
MALIBU, California -- Two outstanding Pepperdine women's soccer alums -- Lynn Williams and Anisa Guajardo -- may line up across from each other in the next week as the two have been named to the United States and Mexico teams, respectively, that will play an upcoming two-game set of friendlies.
The first game is Thursday at 4 p.m. PT in Jacksonville, Florida (TV: FS1) and the second match is Sunday at 10:30 a.m. PT in Houston, Texas (TV: FOX).
It's believed that this would be the first time that two Waves could play each other in international soccer at this level.
Williams has earned 19 caps with the U.S. and has scored four goals. She currently plays for the North Carolina Courage in the NWSL. She was the NWSL's MVP and Golden Boot winner in 2016, which is also when she made her U.S. debut. Williams earned All-American first team honors with the Waves as a 2014 senior and finished second all-time with 39 goals.
Guajardo has made four caps with Mexico and was part of its 2015 Women's World Cup team. She currently plays club soccer with Sundsvalls DFF in Sweden. Her final season with the Waves was in 2012, and she finished with 27 career goals, good for fifth all-time.
