Nov. 2, 2012
MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine women’s soccer earned recognition for academic excellence with the release of the 2012 CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team and the 2012 West Coast Conference All-Academic Team. Six Waves were honored for their exploits in the classroom.
“We're incredibly proud of these young women for not only how they represent Pepperdine soccer on the field, but in the classroom as well,” Pepperdine head coach Tim Ward said. “It's tough enough to be a successful Division I student-athlete, but to do so while maintaining academic excellence is a testament to their intelligence and strength of character."
Kristin DeGrandmont (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) received WCC Academic honorable mention as a junior pre-accounting major. The three-year starter has helped Pepperdine to reach the top-three among league team leaders in nearly every meaningful defensive category, highlighted by seven shutout victories.
Kristine Hilliard (North Ogden, Utah/Weber HS) earned All-District 8 second team accolades as a sophomore pre-business administration major. The second-year Wave has appeared in 14 matches and has contributed to one of the top offensive units in the elite WCC. Pepperdine ranks in the top three among WCC team leaders in virtually every meaningful offensive category.
Ally Holtz (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) earned WCC Academic honorable mention selection as a sophomore undeclared major for Pepperdine. Holtz has appeared in all 19 matches for the Waves this season with nine starting assignments and has recorded a pair of assists, including one on the game-winner in a dramatic 1-0 shutout win at No. 5 Boston College (9/29).
Amanda LeCave (Windsor, Calif./Windsor HS) earned first team All-District 8 honors as a sophomore undeclared major. The West Coast Conference Player of the Month for August, LeCave shares the team lead with 10 goals this season, including a Pepperdine single-match record with four strikes against Indiana (9/2). In addition, the sophomore was named to the WCC Honorable Mention list.
Ana Pontes (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake HS) earned second team All-District 8 honors and first team All-WCC accolades, as a senior sports medicine major. A four-year starter for the Waves, Pontes has helped Pepperdine develop as one of the top defensive units in the elite WCC. Pontes scored her second career goal against San Diego (8/17).
Callie Payetta (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) collected WCC honorable mention selection as a senior rhetoric and leadership major. A four-year starter, Payetta earned WCC Player of the Week honors after scoring the game-winner at No. 5 Boston College (9/29) earlier this season and owns a pair of assists to go along with 27 shots.
