MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine seniors Laura Cole and Karissa Garcia were two of 12 student-athletes named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 first team for women's soccer, the organization announced today. The teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to recognize the top student-athletes in the nation for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
As first team selections, Cole (Whittier, Calif./La Habra HS) and Garcia (Roseville, Calif./Oakmont HS) will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

On the field, Cole is second on the team with seven goals scored this season and her 20 career goals rank 10th on the all-time Pepperdine list. When Cole finds the back of the net this season, the team is 7-0-1.
Garcia boasts a 3.95 GPA as a business administration major. She is a three-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll "gold" recipient and earned WCC All-Academic honorable mention accolades as a sophomore and junior. She was one of four midfielders selected to the first team.
Garcia has started all 20 games for the Waves as a central midfielder this year and has scored three goals and added three assists.
The Waves finished out the regular season with a 15-1-4 record overall and a 7-1-0 record in West Coast Conference play.
