MALIBU, Calif. - Senior defender Michelle Pao and junior forward Lynn Williams of the Pepperdine women's soccer team were both named to the NSCAA All-West Region first team, the organization announced today.
Williams made the NSCAA's all-region first team for the second year in a row, and she was also a second team selection as a freshman. Pao was an NSCAA all-region second teamer each of the last two years.
Pao (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista HS) was fourth on the team with seven points (two goals and three assists) in 2013 while largely playing defender. She scored the game-winning goal at San Diego. In addition to being a four-time All-West Coast Conference first teamer (the first in school history), Pao made the 2011 NSCAA All-American second team.
Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) was the WCC's leading scorer and had a strong shot at WCC Player of the Year honors before suffering an arm injury that knocked her out of the season's final four games. She wound up fourth in the conference with 11 goals and 25 points. Five of her goals were game-winners. Williams was named to the All-WCC first team in 2012 and 2013 and the second team in 2011. She was also the WCC's Freshman of the Year in 2011.
The All-West Region 11-player first team was dominated by the top half of the WCC. Santa Clara had four members, while Pepperdine, BYU and Portland each had two.
Pepperdine ended the 2013 campaign with a 10-7-2 overall record (the third year in a row with at least 10 wins and 14th time in the program's 21-year history) and in a tie for fourth place in the WCC at 5-4.
