Nina Matthies, Burt DeGroot and Mike Bright are in this year's induction class.
MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine volleyball made a big impact in the Southern California Indoor Volleyball Hall of Fame for the second consecutive year as current beach volleyball head coach Nina Matthies and former head men’s coach Burt DeGroot and women’s indoor assistant Mike Bright earned recognition in the second induction class.
The SCIVBHOF induction ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 6 at Anaheim’s Hwy 39 Event Center. The non-profit hall of fame is housed at the current training center for the USA men’s and women’s national teams leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, American Sports Centers (ASC), in Anaheim, Calif.
Among the 15 2018 selectees, USA Volleyball has honored Mike Bright, Burt DeGroot, Flo Hyman, Ron Lang, Nina Matthies, Elaina Oden, Pat Powers and Larry Rundle with all-time great or all-era USVBA team recognition.
In 2017, recently retired long-time Pepperdine men’s volleyball head coach Marv Dunphy was honored in the charter induction class. Also inducted in 2017 were former Pepperdine men’s volleyball alums Craig Buck, Bob Ctvrtlik and Jeff Stork.
