MALIBU, Calif. – Parker Kalmbach of the Pepperdine men’s volleyball team, as well as former women’s indoor and sand standout Stevi Robinson will be in action this weekend for the NORCECA Beach Tour event on Sept. 28-30 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The tournament is free and open to the public. Play will begin at 9 a.m. each day at the beach volleyball courts.
Kalmbach (Coto de Caza, Calif./Tesoro HS) has been involved in USA Volleyball for several years. He was a member of the USA Beach U19 National Team where he placed 17th with partner Dillan Bennett in the 2010 World Youth Championships in Porto, Portugal.
Last month, he competed alongside Weston Carico at the FIVB Junior World Championships in Halifax, Nova Scota. The pair went 2-1 and finished in a tie for ninth place.
At the 2011 FIVB Junior World Championships, also in Halifax, Kalmbach teamed up with Vaun Lennon and went 1-2 in pool play.
This weekend, Kalmbach, who is currently a junior at Pepperdine, will partner with Adam Cabbage who is a graduate of New Mexico.
On the women’s side, 2012 graduate Robinson (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Costa Mesa HS) will compete alongside new teammate Eve Ettinger of USC. After earning her undergraduate degree in public relations last spring from Pepperdine, Robinson is continuing her education at USC where she is working towards her master’s degree. With one year of eligibility left in sand volleyball, Robinson will suit up for the Trojans during the 2013 sand season.
In 2012, Robinson led the Waves to the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship team title during the sport’s inaugural season. She teamed up with Kelley Larsen (Jamul, Calif./Christian HS) and posted an overall record of 19-6 (15-1 in duals).
Pepperdine players and coaches alike have experience tremendous success at NORCECA events this past year.
Matt West (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood HS), Matt Tarantino (Van Nuys, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) and Scott Rhein (Pleasant View, Tenn./Aaron Academy) led the U.S. Men’s Junior National team to its second-straight NORCECA Men’s Junior Continental Championship gold medal. Team USA emerged with a four-set victory over Canada in the title match, which was held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Assistant men’s coach David Hunt guided the U.S. Boy’s Youth National team to a bronze medal finish at the NORCECA Youth Championships in Tijuana, Mexico.
Both teams’ performances at their respective championships earned the U.S. a bid to next year’s youth and junior world championship events.
