Waves Open Chris Knorr Invitational on Friday

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Three members of the Pepperdine women’s swimming team raced on the opening day of the Chris Knorr Invitational, hosted by Cal Lutheran. The two-day meet began today with the 1650 freestyle, and will resume tomorrow with a complete lineup of events.
Himes finished the race in second place with a time of 18:43.79 – just under half a second off her season-best pace.
Mosbaugh clocked a top-three finish behind a time of 18:51.00, while Fitzsimmons hit the wall in a time of 22:01.34 for seventh place.
The two-day event is named after Chris Knorr, who lost his battle with brain cancer in May 2013. Knorr was a member of the swim team while he was a student at Cal Lutheran. Prior to competition on Saturday, at 10:15 a.m., a short ceremony will honor Chris with his parents Ron and Jinny in attendance. Competition inside of the Samuelson Aquatics Center set to start at 10:30 a.m.
Tomorrow’s event list includes a full complement of races including the 400 medley relay, 200 Freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 individual medley and 400 free relay.
Diving will take place at noon and run concurrently with swimming events. The women will begin on the three-meter board and the men will compete first on the one-meter board before switching.
In addition to Cal Lutheran, UC Santa Cruz is also in attendance at the Chris Knorr Invitational.
