SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team added 10 more top-five finishes on the second and final day of the Mustang Invitational. Once again sophomore Jessica Mosbaugh led the Waves, winning both the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke.
Mosbaugh (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) has been on a rampage for Pepperdine this season, winning twice more today to bring her season win total to 10.
She first teamed up with Emily Parks (San Antonio, Texas/Communications Arts HS), Courtney VanWinkle (Victor, N.Y./Victor Senior HS) and Kristine Pataray (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills HS) to place second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:06.18.
Mosbaugh followed up the relay with a win in the 200 IM, clocking a time of 2:11.99 to edge her closest competitor by half a second. Codie Cox (Sonoma, Calif./Maria Carrillo HS/Santa Rosa JC) placed in the top-10 behind a time of 2:22.89
Mosbaugh laid claim to victory for the second time this season in the 200 breaststroke, hitting the wall in a time of 2:23.45. The win set the tone for Emma Fitzsimmons (Southport, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe HS), Kelly Presper (Irmo, S.C./Hammond School) and Katie Giacobbe (Duluth, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian School), who all lowered their season best times in the event.
In the 1000 freestyle, Parks picked up a top-three finish after completing the race in a time of 11:11.37.
Ally Bernard (Porterville, Calif./Monache HS/Cuesta College) paced Pepperdine in the 50 freestyle with a sixth-place time of 25.81. Nicolette Barreiro (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) posted a top-10 time of 26.63.
VanWinkle picked up her best individual finish of the weekend, taking third in the 200 backstroke. It was the first time the sophomore had competed in the event this season.
Laura Graziano (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic HS) fell just two second shy of setting a new season best in the 500 freestyle, but still managed a third-place finish with a time of 5:28.33. Kathrine Kuhlmann (Liberty, Mo./Liberty HS) came in right in behind her, clocking a 5:30.25.
In the final event of the day, Pataray, VanWinkle, Bernard and Parks teamed up to place fifth in the 400 freestyle.
The Waves finished the meet with a point total of 449, good enough for third place.
