Waves Begin Action at Arena Classic

LOS ANGELES - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team opened the three-day Arena Classic on Thursday at East Los Angeles College. Several swimmers swam their fastest races of the season, including Jessica Mosbaugh, who reached the finals of the 200 IM in season-best style.

Mosbaugh (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) opened her day in the 200 IM and clocked a season-best 2:10.07 to advance past the preliminary round. In the finals Mosbaugh bettered her time once again, posting a 2:09.71 to secure a top-30 finish.

In the 500 freestyle, Emily Parks (San Antonio, Texas/Communications Arts HS) paced the Waves with a time of 5:27.48. Laura Graziano (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic HS) and Kathrine Kuhlmann (Liberty, Mo./Liberty HS) came in right behind Parks with sub-5:29 times - both within three seconds of their respective season-best times.

Kristine Pataray (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills HS) was the first Pepperdine swimmer to hit the wall in the 50 freestyle. The freshman clocked a 24.66, just over a tenth shy of her season-best mark in the event.

Ally Bernard (Porterville, Calif./Monache HS/Cuesta College) and Codie Cox (Sonoma, Calif./Maria Carrillo HS/Santa Rosa JC) both lowered their season-best efforts in the 50 freestyle, delivering times of 25.38 and 26.65, respectively.



The 200 freestyle relay was led off by Allison Naasz (Lodi, Calif./Tokay HS) who got the Waves off to a speedy start, finishing her leg of the race in a time of 25.54. Nicolette Barreiro (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) was the next off the blocks and lowered her season-best time to 25.58.

Bernard swam the third leg in a time of 25.52 and Pataray brought it home with a 24.60
