MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team continued competition at the Arena Classic today and collectively set over 10 new season-best times. Emily Parks led the Waves on day two, setting new personal records in three different events.

Parks (San Antonio, Texas/Communications Arts HS) broke the 1-mintute barrier in the 100 backstroke for the first time this season after clocking a career-best 58.88 during the preliminary round. The freshman saved her best for last, lowering her PR once again in the finals. Park posted a 57.92 to finish in 19th place.

Although Cailey Stuebner (Los Altos, Calif./Mountain View HS) and Laura Graziano (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic HS) did not reach the finals, both set new season-best times in the prelims with performances of 1:08.60 and 1:06.10, respectively.

Jessica Mosbaugh (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) placed 14th in the prelims of the 100 breaststroke, clocking a 1:06.61. In the finals, Mosbaugh won her heat with a season-best swim of 1:05.26 and placed ninth overall.

The Waves were officially paced by Allison Naasz (Lodi, Calif./Tokay HS) in the 200 freestyle. The sophomore hit the wall in a time of 2:00.25, less than a second off her season-best mark. Kathrine Kuhlmann (Liberty, Mo./Liberty HS) came in just behind her, finishing the race in a time of 2:02.83.

Parks, swimming the 200 freestyle as an exhibition participant, was unofficially the fastest Wave. The freshman bettered her career-record time in the event to 1:58.28 – the fastest of any Pepperdine swimmer this season. The time was approximately four seconds faster than her previous season-best mark.

Nicolette Barreiro (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) was the first Pepperdine swimmer to finish the 100 butterfly, stopping the timer at the 1:01.35 mark.

Parks continued her tear in the 200 medley, leading off with a career-best 50 backstroke time of 27.52. Mosbaugh followed, clocking a 30.69 in her 50 breaststroke leg.

Barreiro lowered her season-best 50 butterfly time to 27.48 and Kristine Pataray (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills HS) brought it home with a 50 freestyle swim of 25-flat.
