MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine swimmers wrap the opening half of the 2012-13 season at the Arena Classic in Long Beach, Calif. The meet, held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool, runs from Nov. 15-17.
The three-day event, which brings together over a dozen squads, historically has brought out the best in the Waves. Well over 20 different season-best times were set at the Arena Classic in 2011.
In addition to Pepperdine, women’s teams in attendance include Arizona State, BYU, California, Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, San Diego State, San Jose State, UCLA, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara.
The Arena Classic will also give the Waves a chance to quite literally ‘test the waters,’ as the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool will also be the site of the 2013 Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference championship.
Action gets underway on Thursday with the prelims and finals of the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and 400 medley relay.
The Arena Invitational continues on Friday with the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 800 freestyle relay. The third and final day is filled with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 200 freestyle relay and 1,650 freestyle.
