Waves Ink Three for 2008-09

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving team signed three recruits for the 2008-09 season, as they received letters of intent from current high school seniors Leslie Wade, Rachel Cote and Jo Perry.

The addition of that trio well help the Waves replace the losses of seniors Loriann Mark, Jaime Lyon, Alison McLeod, Katharine Skora and Chelsea Yarnell at the end of the 2007-08 campaign.

“The main thing we look for in recruiting are girls that are going to fit well in our program,” Pepperdine Coach Nick Rodionoff said. “We look for girls who are going to get better, but yet are already good and will bring some enthusiasm with them to Pepperdine. Leslie, Rachel and Jo are all very good students and we’re excited about all three of them because we think they’re going to fit in great here.”

Wade, a senior from Lovett High School in Atlanta, Ga., is a four-year letterman in diving and a state qualifier who captained Lovett for two seasons. Wade also competed with the Atlanta Diving Association in the Junior Olympics.

"From the moment I stepped foot on the campus, I knew Pepperdine was the right university for me,” Wade said. “It is everything I have been looking for in a school, and I'm excited to be joining the women's Dive team."

Cote, a senior from Punaho High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a five-time All-American in swimming who holds Hawaii state records in six events, including the 100-yard backstroke, the 100-meter backstroke, the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 400-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

“Pepperdine has everything a student athlete could hope for,” Cote said. “It has incredible facilities, is an excellent school and not to mention is beautiful. It is everything I could've asked for in a college."

Perry, a senior from Xavier College Prep in Charlotte, N.C., is a U.S. Swimming Scholastic All American who is ranked among the top five swimmers in North Carolina.

"When I visited Pepperdine, I realized it had the perfect balance between academics and swimming, not to mention the beautiful Malibu campus,” Perry said.
