Guillermo's Run at Regional Championship Ends in Semifinals
Despite loss, Lorraine Guillermo boasts a 13-3 fall season record in singles.

SAN DIEGO – Lorraine Guillermo of the Pepperdine women’s tennis team saw her run at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championship come to a close today. The junior, who had not dropped a single set in the tournament prior to today, fell in the semifinals to the No. 13 seed out of UCLA.
Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS), seeded fourth, opened the tournament with solid 6-1, 6-4 decision vs. Maeva Razakasoa of Long Beach State in the round of 64. She then knocked out Loyola Marymount’s Kristine Kouyoumijia, 6-0, 6-3.
In the round of 16, Guillermo was once again dominant, topping Akilah James of Arizona 6-2, 6-2.
She punched her ticket to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Laura Antonana Iriarte.
In today’s semifinals, held at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Guillermo lost 6-4, 6-3 to Jennifer Brady out of UCLA.
Although the Waves are now through competing at the regional championship, they collectively tallied 16 wins in singles and seven additional doubles victories.
Pepperdine concludes the fall tournament season at the SDSU Fall Classic II on November 8-10.
