MALIBU, Calif. – For the second consecutive week, Ale Granillo and Matea Cutura of the Pepperdine women’s tennis team won West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week accolades. The Waves have dominated the conference’s weekly awards, winning the doubles title every single week.
Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) and Cutura (Zagreb, Croatia/Gimnazija Birotehnika/DePaul) earned WCC Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this season after extending their win streak vs. Vanderbilt last Sunday.
The Waves opened the week at #2 UCLA to battle Kaitlin Ray and Chanelle Van Nguyen. Although the senior-sophomore combo fell behind a break early, Granillo and Cutura battled to get back on serve, where their match ended at 4-5 once the Bruins had clinched the doubles point.
The duo got Pepperdine started off on the right foot on Sunday vs. #12 Vanderbilt, logging an 8-4 decision over Georgina Sellyn and Frances Altick.
Since then, Pepperdine played Memphis where the Waves’ No. 3 tandem won again to improve to a team best 8-2 overall. Granillo and Cutura are 6-1 in dual matches and have won the last six in a row.
The Waves return to Malibu on Saturday to host Hawaii at 11 a.m.
