Dulgheru Advances in Singles at ITA National Indoor Championships

Malibu, Calif. - Sophomore Bianca Dulgheru of the Pepperdine women's tennis team advanced to the second round on Thursday at the 2005 National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships held by The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

Dulgheru easily defeated Alabama's Ashley Bently 7-5, 6-2 and will take on Theresa Logar of Stanford in the second round Friday morning.

The two doubles teams of Merve Asimgil and Syliva Kosakowski along with Dulgheru and Eva Dickes did not advance as they were both defeated in the first round. Asimgil and Kosakowski lost 8-5 against the No. 4-seed Caroline Basu and Shadisha Robinson of Georgia, but will try for a win in the consolation round as the Waves face Cristelle Grier and Alexis Prousis of Northwestern.

Dulgheru and Dickes will also compete in the consolation and will play Julie Blackmore and Caitlin O'Keefe of Ohio State. The two were eliminated 8-4 by TCU's Helena Besovic and Anna Sydorska.
