LOS ANGELES - The Pepperdine women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 set back at Loyola Marymount on Thursday evening to drop a point in the Wells Fargo/PCH Cup standings. Despite the loss, Kellie Woolever handed in a solid performance with 46 assists and 17 digs.

Set scores for the match were 25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22.

Jazmine Orozco (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS/Illinois) led Pepperdine's (18-9, 7-6 West Coast Conference) offense with a team-high 15 kills.

Samantha Cash (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) and Kelley Larsen (Jamul, Calif./Christian HS) followed with seven kills apiece. Cash got things done on the defensive end with six blocks. Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS) followed with five roofs.

Pepperdine held a 12-10 advantage in blocking.

In addition to Woolever's (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) 46 assists and 17 digs, the junior was responsible for three blocks at the net.

Overall, the Lions (16-11, 7-7 WCC) out-killed the Waves 61-52 to tip the scales in their favor on Senior Night inside Gersten Pavilion.

Although the Lions got things started with a 4-0 run, Orozco put the Waves on the board with a solo roof. LMU maintained control of the frame, however, and limited Pepperdine to just a .028 (9-8-36) clip to extend its lead and go on to win 25-14.

The momentum carried over into set two and Loyola Marymount built a 6-2 advantage, but the Waves fired back with six-straight points to take their first lead of the match at 8-6. Things continued to roll in Pepperdine's favor as they took a 14-8 lead after a Larsen ace and LMU attack error. Despite a late push from the home team, the Waves finished strong and won 25-21.

Orozco paced the offense with six kills on 11 errorless attacks, while Larsen followed with a 4-for-9 effort.

The Waves opened the third set on a 4-2 run, highlighted back-to-back blocks. Adelhelm was present for both roofs, and was first assisted by Larsen and then by Taylor Racich (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS). With a 7-2 run of their own, the Lions were able to battle back and reclaim the lead, 9-6 and did not relinquish it the remainder of the stanza. Although Pepperdine killed off four set points, a Felicia Arriola put away clinched the set for LMU 25-19.

Despite falling behind 2-6 to open the fourth set, Pepperdine climbed out of the hole and scored six unanswered points with Adelhelm at the service line to take the lead. The Lions promptly reclaimed the advantage, but a Cash-Woolever tandem block knotted the score at 11. A fierce battle ensued, as neither team was able to build a lead larger than a single point. After 14 total tie scores, LMU finally took a two point lead 23-21 which proved to be enough as they went on to win 25-22.

Loyola Marymount now leads the Wells Fargo PCH Cup Standings, 4.5-3.0
