MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine's 43-match West Coast Conference win streak came to a disappointing end Saturday night as Saint Mary's downed the Waves for the first time in 10 years, 3-1, at the McKeon Pavillion in Moraga, Calif.

Pepperdine (3-8, 1-1 WCC) was led by Sophia Milo's 14 kills but would hit just .049 in game three and minus .079 in the fourth stanza in falling 30-17 and 30-16, respectively.

The Gael's (13-1, 2-0 WCC) got an 18-kill performance from Kaui Salzman and 17 from Lindsey Bogason in the win.

After taking its first lead of game one at 10-9, the Waves used a 6-0 run to build the lead to six at 21-15. But the Gaels would chip away at the Pepperdine lead and tie the score up at 24-all. Eventually Saint Mary's' run would reach 15-6 as it claimed a 1-0 lead in the match, 30-27.

Pepperdine wasted no time getting in front of Saint Mary's in game two as it raced out to a 19-9 lead. But the Waves would have to fend off a furious Gaels' charge down the stretch to send the match into the intermission at 1-1.

Down by 10, Saint Mary's would go on a 13-4 run to pull within one at 23-22. Pepperdine regained control of the game and built up a three-point margin at 26-23, but Saint Mary's would not go away. With the game tied at 28-28, Sophia Milo recorded her eighth kill of the night. The eighth Gaels' attack error of the game on the ensuing possession secured the Pepperdine win, 30-28.

Kristin McClune and Katy Daly each chipped in double-digit kill performances with 11 and 10, respectively, while four Waves notched double-figure dig nights highlighted by KeKai Cabbe and Christina Hinds' 16.

Pepperdine will return to action Friday as it travels to cross-town rival Loyola Marymount (9-5, 1-1 WCC) for a 7:00 p.m. first-serve.
