MALIBU, Calif. – Junior outside hitter Jazmine Orozco of the Pepperdine women’s volleyball team was named the October West Coast Conference Player of the Month, the league announced today.

Orozco (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS/Illinois) delivered impressive performances night after night during the month of October, and led the Waves to a 7-1 record. She contributed a team-high 4.28 kills/set on offense.

Orozco surpassed the double-digit plateau in kills in seven of the eight matches in October. She was solid on defense as well, picking up 10 or more digs on five occasions for a team-high five double-doubles.

The junior reached the 20+ kill milestone twice, including a career-high 27 kill performance against Loyola Marymount. To date, 27 kills in a single match is the most by any player in the West Coast Conference this season. She was later honored as the WCC Player of the Week for her efforts.

Not only did Orozco by far take the most swings out of any Wave, but she maintained a high hitting percentage the entire month. After 287 attempts, Orozco registered 124 kills and just 31 errors for a .324 clip.

The previous Player of the Month honorees in 2012 are Jennifer Hamson (BYU) and Kathleen Luft (LMU).

The last time a Pepperdine women’s volleyball player was named Player of the Month was during the 2011 season. Kim Hill was both the October and the November league award winner.
